“We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself. At the end of the 15 day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!” reads the message.
WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 23, 2020
The initial 15-day period for social distancing was vital to slowing the spread of the virus, for which more than 30,000 people in the United States have tested positive. Close contacts between people were restricted by banning gatherings, closing schools and offices, encouraging remote work and urging people to maintain a six-foot distance from one another. The administration rolled out a 15-day plan on March 16 to “bend the curve” of new coronavirus cases. The 15-day period would end next Monday.
President Donald Trump declared a national emergency on March 13, a decisive measure by the U.S. government to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.
But the restrictions have the economy reeling.
Vice President Mike Pence indicated on Sunday at a White House briefing about the virus that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would issue new guidelines on Monday, allowing some people who have been exposed to the coronavirus to resume working outside their homes if they wear masks, the New York Times reports.
