U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the process of the withdrawal of the American military contingent from Syria has officially begun, as he reported on Twitter.
“Starting the long overdue pullout from Syria while hitting the little remaining ISIS territorial caliphate hard, and from many directions. Will attack again from the existing nearby base if it (caliphate,- 112.international) reforms…,” Trump wrote.
U.S. President also threatened that he will “devastate Turkey economically” if its troops provoke the Kurds. He urged to create “20-mile buffer zone” (about 32 km) due to this.
He drew attention that “Kurds, in their turn, should not provoke Turkey.”
“Russiam Iran and Syria got more benefit from the long-term policy of the U.S. toward the destruction of the ISIS in Syria. We also got the benefit from it but now it is time to return our troops home. To stop the endless war!,” Trump emphasized.
As we reported, U.S. President Donald Trump proclaimed the victory over the terrorist organization of “Islamic State” in Syria. U.S. Department of Defense reported that it plans a “complete” and “rapid” withdrawal of the American troops from Syria, as CNN reported citing the department.
Later, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced his resignation the day after President Donald Trump overruled his advice against withdrawing the troops from Syria and pressed forward on discussions to pull out of Afghanistan.
Besides, a representative of the Pentagon confirmed signing the order about the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from Syria.
American officials claim that the withdrawal of more than 2,000 troops will take from 60 to 100 days. Most of the U.S. military bases in Syria are located in the areas controlled by Kurdish militia who actively cooperated with the United States in the fight against the Islamists.
