White House Counsel Don McGahn will be leaving his position in the fall, shortly after the confirmation (hopefully) of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. I have worked with Don for a long time and truly appreciate his service!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 29, 2018
The lawyer stated that he did not discuss the resignation, and the President’s statement was unexpected.
It was noted that the resignation was connected with the investigation of Robert Mueller, Special Attorney, on the interference in the Russian presidential elections of 2016. There were rumours that McGahn was cooperating with the Attorney. Within several months he visited three questioning of Mueller’s team. The conversations lasted for 30 hours in total.
McGahn worked in the White House since Trump’s inauguration. He dealt with more general questions, including the electoral rights.
