US President Donald Trump was considering various options for a new US strategy for Afghanistan, Reuters reported citing White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.
According to her, he will make an announcement about the strategy "at the appropriate time."
At the same time, US officials whose names reported that among the options proposed by Trump could be the complete withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, maintain the status quo for about 8,4 thousand American troops, or a small reduction in contingent and focus on the fight against terrorism.
Earlier, the publication of The Hill reported that Trump is trying to find "a new strategy for the US in Afghanistan."
Today US Secretary of Defense James Mattis ststed that President of the United States of America Donald Trump, after "revision of the issue" took a decision on the strategy for Afghanistan.
"The president has made a decision, he said he wants to announce it to the American people himself," Mattis told journalists who travel with him on board a military aircraft in Jordan.
At the same Mattis did not specify when the White House would announce its decision on Afghanistan.
