President Donald Trump signed a presidential memo to the Ministry of Defense to stop accepting transgender people into the army, as The Hill reports.
“Trump’s memo bars transgender people from enlisting, but instructs Secretary of Defense James Mattis to further explore how to handle transgender people currently serving in the armed forces,” the media says.
The Pentagon is also to develop the ban plan by February 21, 2018, so that it takes force on March 23, 2018.
It is worth mentioning, that for around 17 years the "Don't ask, don't tell" was the official US policy on military service by gays, bisexuals. The policy prohibited military personnel from discriminating against or harassing closeted homosexual or bisexual service members or applicants, while barring openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual persons from military service. President Barack Obama believed this policy weakened national security, and signed the repeal on December 22 2010.
