US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a telephone conversation. Political leaders discussed the activity of NATO, the situation in the Middle East, and the conflict in the East of Ukraine.
This was announced by the spokesman for the German government, Steffen Seibert on Twitter page, radio "Svoboda" reported.

"A wide range of issues was considered, including NATO, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, relations with Russia and the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Both sides confirmed the importance of close German-American cooperation in the field of security and prosperity of their countries,” the statement said.
Also, the leaders said that NATO must confront the challenges of the 21st century and that the total defense requires adequate investment in military capabilities, as well as a fair contribution to the allies, the report said.
Trump accepted the invitation of German Chancellor to attend the G20 summit in Hamburg, which is scheduled for July this year. Also, the head of the White House expressed a wish to meet with Angela Merkel in the near future in Washington.
