The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Transnistrian Republic refused to support the withdrawal of Russian troops from the republic in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution of June 22, 2018. This was reported by the press service of the department.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that Russian troops in Transnistria carry out exclusively tasks to ensure sustainable peace and security, and there are no other Russian armed forces other than peacekeeping forces on the territory of the Republic," the statement said.
The department claims that the presence of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is fixed and regulated by the basic documents on the settlement of the armed conflict, including the 1992 Agreement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs insists that the transformation of the peacekeeping mission is possible only after the settlement of the relations between Transnistria and Moldova.
"Thus, this kind of demarches on the part of the Republic of Moldova with the use of authoritative international sites are obviously doomed to failure and introduce additional tension in the relations of participants in the negotiation process," the department noted.
Representatives of Transnistria call on Moldova to negotiate "in order to improve people's lives and solve specific practical problems."
Note, on the eve of the UN General Assembly approved the resolution, which calls for withdrawing foreign troops from the territory of Moldova. 64 states supported the document, against were 14, and 83 countries abstained.
The resolution was put to the vote by Moldova with the support of Canada, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine and Estonia.
It is interesting that Moldovan President Igor Dodon condemned the adoption of the document. In his opinion, the vote in the UN General Assembly on Transdniestria was yet another anti-Russian demarche of the Moldovan government.
Earlier Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was concerned about the movement of Russian military equipment through the territory of the unrecognized Transnistria, which took place on June 14. This is reported on the Foreign Ministry website.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its concern over the actions of the Russian Federation regarding the violation of the regime of the Transnistrian conflict zone, in particular the unauthorized transfer on June 14, 2018 of military equipment and weapons of the Operational Group of Russian Forces in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, accompanied by unrecognized "law enforcement agencies", the report said.
Ukraine stated that Russia violated its obligations in the process of the Transnistrian settlement.
"Russia's failure to fulfill its obligations undermines confidence between the participants in the negotiation process and creates an atmosphere of tension in the regional dimension," the Foreign Ministry said.
Let us note that Transnistria is a self-proclaimed state, which the international community recognizes as part of Moldova. The independence of it is only partially recognized by the republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as by the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
