Tillerson, Lavrov discuss issues on Ukraine, Syria, North Korea

Rex Tillerson, the US Secretary of State and Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister held the phone talk as the press service of the US Department of State reported.

Tillerson drew the attention to the upcoming meeting of Kurt Volker, the US Special Envoy to Ukraine with Vladislav Surkov, the Affiliate of the Russian president during the talk.

‘Tillerson emphasized the need for Russia to accelerate implementation of its commitments under the Minsk Agreements and reverse the recent escalation in the fighting in eastern Ukraine’, the message said.

On Syria, the sided discussed the role of Russia in ensuring the Assad regime plays a constructive role in the UN-led Geneva process.

Also, they discussed the situation around DPRK and expressed the joint opinion that North Korea should fulfill all requirements of the UN Security Council.

As we reported US Special Envoy to Ukraine arrived in Ukraine on January 23, however his visit to Donbas turned out to be under the threat due to the weather conditions.Volker also met Viktor Muzhenko, the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Vadym Chernysh, the Minister for Occupied Territories and IDPs of Ukraine. The sides discussed the current situation in Donbas.
