United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed by phone situation in Syria after US missile strike on Syrian airbase.
This was reported by Reuters agency referring to the press service of Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is informed that Lavrov insisted that "an attack on a country whose government fights terrorism only plays into the hands of extremists, creates additional threats to regional and global security", according to the agency.
He also denied Tillerson's claims that Syrian government forces used chemical weapons in Idlib province on April 4.
It was noted that parties agreed to continue discussion in person. Tillerson is expected to arrive in Moscow next week.
Earlier it was reported that U.S. landed a missile strike on Syrian army. It was in America’s vital security interest, according to Trump. Syrian Defense Ministry claims significant damage to Shayrat airbase. The attack was treated as the retaliatory action in response to the recent chemical attack in Idlib province.
Ukraine also positively assessed the US missile strike on the airbase in Syria.
