Former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump Paul Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates were charged with the money laundering by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on October 30. Former adviser of Trump George Papadopoulos was accused of lying to the FBI and pleaded guilty in October 2017 as Reuters reported.
Both Manafort and Gates pleaded not guilty in 12-points accusations and they were placed under the house arrest due to the apprehension that they can leave the country. The main points are money laundering, the acting as the unregistered agents of the former government of Ukraine that was connected with Russia. Particularly, he worked with the Party of Regions and former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. Manafort and his partner Gates earned dozens of millions of dollars and hid this money from the US authorities.
Talking about George Papadopoulos, he made the false statement concerning the connections of Trump with Russia and leverage against Clinton. In fact, his role in the Trump’s campaign was extremely limited.
President Trump negatively perceived the accusations against Manafort and criticized the attitude of the prosecution. He stated that the investigation concerns only the beginning of his election campaign and there is a necessity to investigate the campaign of Hillary Clinton.
