According to the observer, such visits are too uncommon for the period of the increase of tension in the America-Russia relations.
The Ambassador of Russia to the US earlier confirmed that Sergey Naryshkin, the Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia stays in Washington for the meetings with the US officials for the discussing of the joint fight against terrorism and other issues during last days.
‘however, it was not earlier reported about the visits of two other heads, Aleksandr Bortnikov, the Head of the Federal Security Service and Ihor Korobov, the Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Russia’, Radio Liberty noted.
The Washington Post reported on January 31 that Bortnikov and Korobov were in Washington last week and Bortnikov met Mike Pompeo, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency as well as Naryshkin. It is not clear with whom Korobov met.
The visits took place a few days before the imposing of new sanctions against Russia by the administration of President Trump in accordance with the bill adopted in summer 2017.
As we reported the ‘Kremlin report’ was presented in the US Congress on January 29. It contains 210 names close to Putin’s government. The US State Treasury presented only nonclassified part of the report. Particularly, the list includes all ministers of the Russian government, heads of the presidential administration, heads of both chambers of the parliament, mayor of Moscow and governor of St. Petersburg, leading businessmen and heads of the state companies.
