Great Britain Home Secretary Theresa May became the only candidate for the Prime Minister's post and for the Conservative party leader after her rival the State Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the contest. BBC reports this.
Mrs Leadsom, who was flanked by some of her supporters, said: "Strong leadership is needed urgently to begin the work of withdrawing from the European Union". In her brief statement in Westminster, she also said a nine-week leadership campaign at such a "critical time" for the UK would be "highly undesirable".
