The ambassador provided South Tyrol in Italy, where the German national minority lives as the example. The teaching is held in German and the state Italian language is taught on the method of the foreign language. Herewith, in the case of Ukraine and taking into account the situation in the east of the country, the demand for the autonomy is out of the question.
‘Our politicians say that there is nothing bad in the autonomy, it is an acceptable model in the EU. But the Hungarians of Zakarpattia who are the citizens of Ukraine also take into account the situation in the east and nobody demands the autonomy now’, Keskeny emphasized.
At the same time, the ambassador reminded on the results of the referendum that took place in December 1991. The citizens of Zakarpattia and Berehove region also dwelled on the issue of the creation of the autonomy, despite the question of the independence of Ukraine. 78% of the citizens of Zakarpattia and 83% of the citizens of Berehove supported the autonomy of the regions. ‘And they still got nothing’, he specified.
Also, the autonomy of Zakarpattia will only benefit as Keskeny think. The population will be able to decide on the issues concerning their interests. And in no case, it is the striving for the separatism as Keskeny is sure.
‘You should not see the separatism here. Even Hennady Moskal, the Governor of Zakarpattia said that there is no separatism here’, he emphasized and added that there is no tension in the west of Ukraine.
Talking about the aid to the citizens of the region by Hungary, it is not a sign that Budapest attempts to reach the autonomy for Zakarpattia.
‘Should we percept our aid to Zakarpattia as the sign of the separatism? We just sent there 8, 000 vaccines against the measles. Is it a problem? Only 12% of the citizens of Zakarpattia are Hungarians. We help the whole population, not only the Hungarians’.
