The National Security and Defense Council states that the subjects for imposing sanctions against NewsOne TV channel and 112 Ukraine TV channel have not been identified. This was reported by the Defense Council in response to an information request from Ukrainian News.

The department agency said that the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of October 4, 2018, with the initiative to impose sanctions on television channels, was considered by the Defense Council on March 19, 2019.

Due to the fact that the Ukrainian legislation allows imposing sanctions against resident legal entities solely in case of their involvement in terrorist activity, the National Security and Defense Council instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to carry out competent revision of the companies mentioned in the resolution.

The Security Service of Ukraine was unable to provide the following facts regarding the operation of television channels.

As we reported earlier, on October 4, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution approving proposals for the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) against broadcasters of 112 Ukraine TV channel and NewsOne TV channel.

These measures are considered by 112 Ukraine TV channel as a restriction on freedom of expression and a threat to the independent work of the media in Ukraine, so the channel is forced to appeal to international organizations for protection. Letters were sent to the President of the European Commission, Donald Tusk, the European Commissioner, Federica Mogherini, and the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland.

112 Ukraine TV channel is experiencing harassment since the beginning of its founding and considers the announced cancellation of licenses of the television channel and the ban on the use of radio frequencies inadmissible.

Later, the European Parliament began collecting signatures under appeal to the Verkhovna Rada, calling for a reconsideration of a request to the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions on 112 Ukraine TV channel and NewsOne TV channel.
