American proposal on deploying UN peacekeepers in Eastern Ukraine that has been presented by U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker seems attainable, Aide to the president of Russia Vladislav Surkov said, as TASS reports.
The proposal was discussed between the officials on Jan. 26 in Dubai.
“The main topic of the negotiations yet again was the discussion of the Russian initiative to deploy a UN peacekeeping mission in the South-East of Ukraine. This time, the Americans brought way more constructive suggestions. The “Dubai package” of American groundwork, unlike the Belgrade one, overall looks attainable. At least from the first sight,” Surkov said.
He also told what the proposal is about.
“The main part of it is a rather comprehensive plan of a step-by-step deploying of the mission in relations with implementing the political paragraphs of the Minsk agreements. It’s a balanced approach, which we have been insisting on. We will study it carefully and give our answer in a timely manner. After this, we’ll invite Kurt and his colleagues to a new meeting,” he added.
