The Supreme Court of Spain arrested Carme Forcadell, the former speaker of the parliament of Catalonia with allowing for release on bail as DW reported.

The Prosecutor's Office demanded to arrest Forcadell and three other people without the right to release on bail.

Forcadell and five former MPs of the regional parliament of Catalonia spoke at the court session during the whole day. All of them are accused of the rebellion, mutiny and embezzlement.

The National Court Chamber of Spain judged to remain in the custody eight former Catalonian ministers.

Santi Vila, the former Minister of Economy was released after the standing of the bail in the sum of 50 000 euros.

Earlier it was reported that the Supreme Court of Spain questioned the former speaker of the parliament of Catalonia and five MPs.

On October 1, a referendum on independence was held in Catalonia. According to the results, 90.18% voted for independence with 43% turnout. The Spanish government did not recognize the de facto declaration of independence by Catalonia.

On October 27, the Catalan government voted to declare independence from Spain.

After this, the Senate of Spain introduced Art. 155 of the Constitution of the country, suspending self-government in Catalonia.  The control mechanisms were passed to the government in Madrid. Carles Puigdemont was replaced by Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, appointed by the Spanish Cabinet.

The Constitutional Court of Spain recognized the resolution on the independence of Catalonia invalid.
