NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged Hungary and Ukraine to resolve the differences as soon as possible. He said this during a meeting of NATO member states on April 27.

"It is well known that there are some disagreements between Hungary and Ukraine that made it impossible to hold a meeting at the ministerial level, but we continue to urge Ukraine and Hungary to find a solution to these disagreements as quickly as possible," Stoltenberg said.

He noted that Hungary is an important member of NATO, this country contributes to the collective defense of NATO in various forms, and also increases its defense spending, which is welcomed by the Alliance.

The NATO Secretary General also described the situation in Ukraine.

"Ukraine is a close partner of NATO, it is also a victim of Russian aggression and the illegal annexation of Crimea, as well as attempts by Russia to destabilize the east of Ukraine. Therefore, it is very important for us to express our solidarity with Ukraine," Stoltenberg stressed.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto told reporters that the holding of the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission depends only on Ukraine.

"I told the secretary general that the NATO-Ukraine meeting at the summit depends only on Ukraine," he said on Friday in Brussels, Ukrinform reports.

As previously reported, Hungary vetoed a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission in Brussels at the level of foreign ministers, which was to take place this week. Earlier, Hungary blocked a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission, which was to be held on February 14-15, and before that - the convening of it in December 2017.

Hungary stated that it would not support Ukraine's rapprochement with Europe until the law on education was repealed.
