NATO countries and Ukraine will determine when the time is right for Ukraine’s Alliance membership, Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization told in a joint briefing with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, broadcasted by 112.UA Channel.

“Every nation has a right to decide if it wants to be a part of such an alliance as NATO. And for NATO it’s important to emphasize that any decision as to joining NATO must be made by NATO and the applying nation. No other nation can interfere or veto this process, as it’s a sovereign right of every sovereign nation to determine its future, including the decision to join the Alliance. NATO will continue to support Ukraine on its way towards the Alliance, on realizing the necessary reforms, conforming to NATO standards, and only Alliance and Ukraine will decide when the membership should be discussed,” he said.
