Odesa appeal court has dropped the charge against radical activist Serhiy Sternenko in the case of illegal posession of another person's belongings. Earlier, Sternenko was sentenced to seven years in jail, with confiscation of property. He himself reported that on his Facebook page.
"Acquitted under Article 187. That's the same 10 dollars, for which they sentenced me to seven years with confiscation of property", he wrote.
Sternenko added that the hearings in two other casers against him are underway now; one case concerns illegal detention or abduction, and the other concerns illegal gun or explosive handling.
As is known, Sternenko was earlier found guilty of abducting a person and sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison. This decision was made by the Prymorsky Court of Odesa. The court also ruled for the confiscation of half of Sternenko's property as a punishment and decided to take the activist into custody in the courtroom.
The court then recognized the seized during the search items as admissible evidence. Sternenko himself claims that the search of his home was carried out without a lawyer, with whom he was not allowed to contact. The testimony of local deputy Serhiy Shcherbych, who accuses Sternenko of his abduction, was also found credible.
The court also ruled for the confiscation of half of Sternenko's property as a punishment and decided to take the activist into custody in the courtroom.
