On January 28, the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine issued another unlawful decision and made an official forgery.
According to the decision of the National TV Council, sanctions were applied to 112 Ukraine TV channel, followed by the possibility of depriving the channel of its broadcasting license.
112 Ukraine TV channel informed the National TV Council that the general producer of the Novyny media holding (News media holding) Oleksiy Semyonov had contracted the coronavirus and could not take part in the meeting of the regulator. In addition, due to a positive PCR test result, other responsible executives are required to go into self-isolation.
This letter was registered in the office of the National TV Council the day before the meeting, which is confirmed by the office of the state body.
At the meeting, the speaker said that the TV channel had been summoned to the meeting, but did not appear and did not ask the National TV Council to postpone it. That is, due to the order, the explanatory letter was intentionally ignored by the regulator. Thus, in order to impose sanctions against the channel, the National TV Council resorted to official forgery.
We consider the regulator's decision to be biased, taken under direct pressure from the authorities. Thus, the National TV Council has once again confirmed that it is the punitive body of the President's Office to fight with unwanted channels.
In addition, this decision of the National TV Council will be appealed in court. We will also submit a statement to the relevant authorities about the fact of the commitment of an official crime.
“We have been working under pressure from the authorities since the launch of 112 Ukraine. It is difficult for an independent broadcaster in Ukraine, but over the years we have not deviated from our path, we remain supporters of comprehensive information. As always, both government officials and the opposition can take a word on all our TV channels. I believe in our rightness. We will defend the right of every Ukrainian to choose which channel to watch,” Yehor Benkendorf, President of Novyny media holding and Director General of 112 Ukraine said.
