State Agency for Fisheries of Ukraine commented on the detention of Ukrainian fishermen in the Sea of Azov by Russian law enforcers as the website of the agency stated.
“The State Fisheries Agency along with the Foreign Ministry and the number of other bodies of state power work to establish all circumstances of this case and within the competence will assume further actions for the early return of detained citizens to the territory of Ukraine,” the message said.
Besides, the agency reminded that it supports the principal position toward the constancy of the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol as ‘the integral part of the sovereign territory of Ukraine’.
On February 15, Russia's FSB detained the vessel, saying that the crew performed illegal fishing activity. Later, Russian law enforcers interrogated the sailors who admitted illegal fishing. They were arrested for 10 days.
The National Police of Ukraine has opened a case on the fact of illegal capture of Ukrainian ship in the Sea of Azov.
Besides, the Chargé d'affaires of Russia was called to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine due to the detention of four Ukrainian fishermen in the Sea of Azov.
