Siil 2018 drills kick off in Estonia

The Siil-2018 (Hedgehog 2018) the biggest in the history of Estonia international military drills has started today.  The maneuvers with the participation of over 15,000 soldiers will last until May 14.

More than 15,000 soldiers, members of the military militia 'Kaitseliit', reservist, police officers, rescuers and NATO allies and partners from 15 countries: the UK, the USA, Denmark, Germany, Poland, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Georgia, Ukraine and Ireland will participate in the drills.

The number of the partakers of Siil 2018 surpasses 13, 000 people and according to the OSCE Vienna document the 31 observers from Belarus, the Czech Republic Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Sweden, the UK, the USA, Ukraine will be present at the drills.

The scenario of the training suggests a made-up country, which tries to split apart the NATO countries. The drills, except for Estonia, will also take place on the territory of Latvia.

As we reported the largest special tactical drills of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2018 took place at the proving ground situated at the Azov Sea coast.

The artillery, aviation, armored and wheeled transport, personnel of an airborne brigade and air assault brigade participated in the drills. More than 500 soldiers and 200 units of different equipment: tanks, armored personnel carriers and armored regiment vehicles participated in the drills. A few chains of Mi-24 attack helicopters and Mi-8 transport helicopters provided the air support.
