Servant of the People party offered MPs to consider the bill about dual citizenship for Ukrainian citizens. The respective document No.4640 has been registered in the Parliament.
According to the document, Ukrainians have the right to obtain the citizenship of a foreign country without losing the Ukrainian one.
Apart from that, foreigners can obtain Ukrainian citizenship without abandoning their actual citizenship.
The bill also imposes declaration of foreign citizenship (if any), and the account of Ukrainian citizens who also enjoy citizenship of other countries. In case of any violation of these requirements, administrative and criminal responsibility will be applied.
The declaration must be filed by those seeking appointment as government officials - including offices in local government, law enforcement agencies, etc.
Ukrainians also have the option to get the Russian citizenship as second citizenship, but since Russia is considered an aggressor country, such individuals are deprived of their electoral rights. This restriction is eligible either until these people refuse from Russian citizenship or Russia is not considered an aggressor country anymore.
The individuals with dual citizenship cannot be appointed to top government offices in Ukraine.
