Lawmakers from Servant of the People and Holos parties offer to create a temporary investigation committee to look into the conditions of the change of ownership of 112 Ukraine, NewsONE and ZIK TV channels. The committee will also be supposed to investigate the "pro-Russian activity"; Vadym Rabinovych, one of the leaders of Opposition Platform - For Life party posted that on Facebook. Strana.ua news agency published the respective document.
"Servants of people" and Holos filed a paper about creation of the investigation committee that would look into "pro-Russian agenda" of NewsONE, 112 and Zik - there's your [logical] chain: the attack on the channel, using the grenade launcher; the illegal session of the National [TV and Radio Broadcasting] Council and now...", he wrote.
The draft decree of the Parliament says that the temporary committee would be created to hold the investigation into the information about living up to the law's demands during the change of ownership of information TV channels and provision of counteractive measures against Russia's information influence. The aim of this investigation is to avoid "monopolization in the information market and the TV broadcasting market, limitation of Russia's influence on the information space and counteraction against the threats to national security".
The committee should check the conditions of purchase, financial sources during the change of ownership of TV channels, as well as the content produced by the channels and participation in possible information operations, aimed at the undermining of the country's defense capability.
Olga Vasylevska-Smaglyuk (Servant of the People) is supposed to chair the committee; her deputy would be Oleksandra Ustinova, the MP from Holos party faction.
