Leader of Serbian People’s Party Nenad Popovic visited Crimea and told the press that the occupied Crimea is 'part of Russia'. According to RTS, the politician stated that the Crimean issue is solved, and there is no way that Ukraine would get the peninsula back.

Popovic turned to the self-proclaimed Crimean parliament, stating that the ties between Serbs and Russians have been lasting for centuries. According to him, Serbs never forget what Russia did for them.

‘In the hearts of those who reside in Crimea and Russia, Crimea has always been the inseparable part of Russia. Serbia fairly respects and admires the courage and determination of Crimean residents to return to Russia,’ the leader of Serbian People’s Party said.

Popovic added he came to Crimea ‘to discuss prospects of political relations’.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry condemned the statement delivered by the Serbian official. The Ukrainian authority summoned the Serbian ambassador for explanations on the issue. ‘The Serbian parliamentary figure breached both Ukrainian and international law. Serbian MPs openly call for recognition of Crimea’s annexation by Russia and thus contravene the official position of Serbia that supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity’, said Maryana Betsa, the ministry’s spokeswoman.

It’s been three years since the illegal ‘referendum’ about merging Crimea with Russia; Ukraine and the vast majority of the international society doesn’t recognize the vote, stating that Crimea is illegally annexed by Russia.
