Since 2014, Serbian law enforcement officers have opened 45 criminal cases against mercenaries taking part in hostilities abroad, including in Donbas. This was reported by the representative of the prosecutor's office of Belgrade, Tatiana Sekulich, informs Politika.

According to her, proceeding was opened against persons under the Art. 386a of the Criminal Code of Serbia. In 2016 law enforcement officers brought charges to 24 persons.

Also last year, 28 mercenaries who took part in military conflicts abroad, were sentenced. The publication notes that in 2014, Serbia toughened the punishment for people taking part in military conflicts abroad. So, Serbia decided to answer those who travel to Donbas to fight on the side of Russian mercenaries, as well as on the side of the "Islamic state" in Syria.

Recall, a few days ago, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia Oleksander Aleksandrovich gave an interview to the information portal, which mainly focused on the fact that Russia is using Serbia to destroy Europe. The reaction of the Serbian Foreign Ministry was quick - the department accused the Ukrainian ambassador of intending to damage the friendly relations between Moscow and Belgrade and threatened with retaliatory measures. Probably, we can talk about the withdrawal of the accreditation of Aleksandrovich by the Serbian government and declaring him persona non grata.
