Ukraine's SBU, the State Security Service, busted a group of separatists who urged citizens of Zaporizhya to overthrow the incumbent Ukrainian government and create a fake republic, the so-called Zaporizhya People's Republic, a pro-Russian pseudostate formation like those in the occupied Donbas. The press office of the SBU reported that on July 9.
The criminals spread leaflets and other promo materials, urging people to destroy the current constitutional order, start forced federalization and create a fake "people's republic", reads the message.
According to preliminary investigation, members of the criminal group belonged to a pro-Russian radical movement that tried to create "Zaporizhya People's Republic" in this city. When they failed, they moved to the temporarily occupied Luhansk. They helped Russian mercenaries who occupied this area, as they built barricades and outposts near the captured administrative buildings. Eventually, they returned to Zaporizhya.
The SBU seized computers, cell phones, medals of Donetsk People's Republic, Luhansk People's Republic and the Russian Federation, ammunition, separatist and Communist symbols.
Ukrainian law enforcers opened criminal case on respective articles (attempt to assault Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, spread of Communist symbols and propaganda of Communist regime).
