Member of Russian party suspected of high treason

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a member of the United Russia political party, Igor Kucheryavyi, who is suspected of high treason. The news agency ATR reports.

Kucheryavyi was detained at the Kalanchak checkpoint on the administrative border with the Crimea.  He was traveling from Kherson, where he allegedly issued a Ukrainian passport, according to which he planned to go to Europe.

Igor Kucheryavyi is known for actively supporting the occupation of Crimea and is a member of the party of the President of the Russian Federation United Russia.  During the annexation of the peninsula, he organized the so-called "self-defense units" and "checkpoints" in Sevastopol.
