In 2020-2021, counter-intelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) observed more than 90 cases of recruitment of Ukrainian citizens by Russian special service. Press office of Donetsk regional state administration reported that on March 12.

Most frequently, Russian agents try recruiting Ukrainian citizens who cross the Russian border for business.

Cases of detention of Ukrainians are reported, as border guards claimed the need of "extra checks of documents". After that, representatives of Russian special services tried involving these people into secret collaboration so as to damage the national security of Ukraine.

The Russian side intimidated and threatened Ukrainian citizens to get information about the location and movement of Ukrainian military units. Besides, the Russian "curators" were interested in personal data of army servicemen and workers of law enforcement agencies.

Such actions are qualified as high treason. Ukraine's Criminal Code foresees 15-year-long prison term for this particular crime.
