The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) completed a pre-trial investigation in the case regarding the illegal detention of Mikheil Saakashvili on the border with Poland in 2018. The press service of the SBI reported that.
"Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation, on the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General, completed a pre-trial investigation against two former officials of the State Border Service of Ukraine on the fact of abuse of power or official authority by a law enforcement officer (part 2 of article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the message says.
Former officials were involved in organizing and carrying out unlawful detention. As for the other involved government officials, the investigation is still ongoing.
If proven guilty, they face imprisonment for up to eight years.
As we reported before, the Foreign Ministry of Georgia will call the Ukrainian ambassador due to the statement of Head of the Executive Committee of Reforms Mikheil Saakashvili.
According to the official, the call of the Ukrainian ambassador is related to the recent statement of Saakashvili about the parliamentary elections in Georgia.
