US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed the Ukrainian issue during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. This was stated in the message of the US State Department following the meeting.
"As for Ukraine, Secretary Tillerson stressed the need for progress in the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, sanctions against Russia will remain in effect until Moscow abolishes the actions that caused them," it was reported.
Also, foreign ministers discussed the importance of defeating ISIS, de-escalating violence in Syria and providing humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of civilians throughout the country.
"The United States and Russia agreed to continue discussions to resolve other issues of bilateral interest, including strategic stability," the State Department said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told his version of how the meeting with President Trump was held. He says that during the conversation "it was confirmed that, despite all the known difficulties, our countries can and should help one another to solve key problems that are on the international agenda. In short, now our dialogue is free from the ideologization that was characteristic of the Obama administration," Lavrov added.
