Ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to the individual cell. According to the Georgian authorities, it was his personal wish as Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia reported on Facebook.
Mikheil Saakashvili was offered to stay in one cell with his neighbor. However, the ex-president flatly refused and it is witnessed by documents.
“The accusation that the teammates of Saakashvili cannot meet him is a lie and it is confirmed by numerous visits to accused/convicted Mikheil Saakashvili during a day covered by mass media,” the message says.
Besides, it is noted that the personal doctor of Saakashvili has visited his client a few times. Due to it, the medic should appeal to the penitentiary service with all necessary documents, as well as ground reasons for meeting with the patient.
On October 1, the Georgian ex-president wrote on Facebook that he crossed the border of Georgia. Later that day, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakliy Garibashvili claimed that Saakashvili was detained and taken to the penitentiary facility. The Ukrainian side claimed it was an act of Georgia's "revenge" against Saakashvili.
Later, Deputy Prime Minister Tea Tsulukiani stated that the Georgian government does not consider the option of extradition of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to Ukraine.
On October 4, a Ukrainian consul visited ex-president and former Ukrainian lawmaker Mikheil Saakashvili in the Georgian prison.
