Mikheil Saakashvili stated that he made a decision to return to Georgia as he reported on Facebook.
“I have always had and will always have two homes. I always felt the responsibility to help my peoples. That is why I did not actively participate in the political life of two countries,” Saakashvili wrote.
He apologized for mistakes made and said to Gruzia Online that now he wants to serve the country and knows how to avoid mistakes.
“Meanwhile, I am eternally grateful to Georgian people who made me a partaker of the successful historical process of building of the Georgian state. During these seven years, there was not a day, when I was not interested in the Georgian news and I know for sure that my work at the post of the president was not in vain and many things that we created are still kept and they work; however, at the same time when I hear Georgian news, I believe, I know that we can live much stronger, better and every Georgian might be reached and it will unite us,” Saakashvili said.
In her turn, Minister of Justice of Georgia noted that Mikheil Saakashvili is still on the wanted list and in case of the attempt to enter the territory of Georgia, he will be detained at the border as rustavi2 reported.
“We heard the video, during which Mikheil Saakashvili appeal to the Georgian people. We, of course, welcome him, if he finds the strength and arrives in Georgia, there are a number of sentences which would be reconsidered, while he would stay in a prison,” the minister said.
Previously, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky assigned Mikheil Saakashvili to the post of Head of Executive Committee of Reforms. This is mentioned in the decree released on the website of the head of the state.
Later, Georgia recalled its ambassador in Kyiv for consultations. Such a move is due to the recent appointment of Mikheil Saakashvili, the former Georgian leader who is, from now on, the head of the Executive Committee of Reforms that works by the President of Ukraine.
Besides, Georgia demands extradition of Mikheil Saakashvili from Ukraine.
