Saakashvili offers to discuss disbanding Constitutional Court of Ukraine at nationwide referendum

Mikheil Saakashvili, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Council for Reforms of Ukraine, offered to put the disbanding of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the agenda of the nationwide referendum. Saakashvili said so in a video presentation of changes that he offers for Ukraine's judiciary system.

"In its current form, there is no need in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. We offer to put the issue of canceling the current Constitutional Court and creation of Constitutional Chamber in the Supreme Court of Ukraine", he said. 

Saakashvili is sure that Ukrainian citizens are ready to support decisive changes in the judiciary system.

Currently, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is a body of constitutional jurisdiction, which provides the supremacy of the Constitution of Ukraine, solves issues of consistency of Ukrainian laws with the Constitution of Ukraine, and performs official interpretation of the basic law of Ukraine. 

The Supreme Court of Ukraine consists of the Big Chamber of the Supreme Court, Cassation Administrative Court, Cassation Civil Court, Cassation Criminal Court, and Cassation Household Court.
