“Volker said that the Russian “proposal” to Ukraine to participate in a criminal investigation against seafarers is an insult to justice, as well as an insult to the UN and Ukraine’s sovereignty since there are no grounds for their detention,” the statement reads.
Volker himself in his Twitter called the “trap” Russia's proposal to guarantee Ukraine’s participation in the criminal prosecution of Ukrainian sailors who were detained last year in the Kerch Strait area and imprisoned in a Russian prison on false charges of illegally crossing the Russian border.
Russian FSB's Office of Investigations carried out the investigative actions in respect to a part of the Ukrainian sailors and pressed them with final charges. Coordinator of the group of lawyers of the Ukrainian POW sailors Nikolay Polozov announced this on his Facebook page.
“POWs Yevhen Semidotsky, Yuriy Budzylo, Bohdan Nebylytsia, Volodymyr Tereshchenko, Andriy Oprysko, Andriy Drach, Andriy Eider, and Serhiy Popov have been charged under Article 322 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for illegal crossing of the state border of the Russian Federation committed by a group,” Polozov announced.
In addition, due to the expiration of the detention periods at the end of July, the Russian investigation will request the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow for the extension of these periods, the lawyer added.
As Polozov says, POWs and their lawyers have got acquainted with the results of the situational forensic.
The similar investigative actions will be carried out with respect to the other Ukrainian captured sailors over the next week.
