Embassy of the Russian Federation in the UK expressed the dissatisfaction about how Foreign Secretary of the UK Jeremy Hunt congratulated Ukrainian showman and comedian Volodymyr Zelensky on the victory at the presidential elections in Ukraine, as embassy’s website reported.
“We have taken note of the statement by the Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, congratulating Volodymyr Zelensky on being elected President of Ukraine. In his statement Mr. Hunt said the UK interest in supporting Ukraine was due to the country’s position “on the front-line of Russia’s challenge to the rules-based international system”. The Foreign Secretary also mentioned that Ukraine’s “stability is essential for Europe’s security”, the message said.
The Russian diplomats have noted that one of the first directions on which London intends to cooperate with Kyiv is defense and security.
According to them, such statements only emphasize that the real aim of the support provided by the UK and other Western countries to Ukraine during recent years is not helping the Ukrainian people.
They are sure that the support of Ukraine aims to use the state as the military-political confrontation with Russia.
On April 21, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt congratulated Zelensky on the victory and stated that the UK waits for their joint work. Later he has also stated that the UK is vitally interested in the support of Ukraine. As far as it states on the edge of the fight of Russia against the international system and its stability is highly important for Europe.
