Russian publicist Boris Stomakhin, twice judged for "extremism" in his homeland, asks for political asylum in Ukraine. He himself said so as quoted by UNN news agency.
"I'm asking for sanctuary. I consider this the right thing to do. One could say I feel it like home here - even more than I was there, in Russia. It's a monstrous country", he said.
Stomakhin already spent 12 years in jail. In 2004, he asked for the asylum in Ukraine, but they refused to provide it at the time. and left Russia after the release in 2019, fearing he could be charged and judged again.
In May 2019, the European Court for Human Rights recognized that Russia breached Article 10 of the European Convention for Human Rights (freedom of expression).
