Russian peacekeepers detained the reporters of Moldova's TV8 channel. The alleged reason was that the crew filmed a roadway across the bridge over Dnister river. Newsmaker reported that on Thursday evening.

On February 9, reporters Viorica Tetaru and Andriy Kaptarenko filmed another edition of their show Dincolo de Nistru ("River Without Borders") about people living on both banks of Dnister river. However, Russian peacekeepers who guard the bridge and control the traffic there halted the reporters. Not only they were armed, they also put a spiked chain in front of the car, where the reporters were staying", the TV channel management reported.

The peacekeepers forbade correspondents to film the bridge, claiming that they did not have proper accreditation. They demanded to erase the filmed footage, which could show their outpost. But the reporters refused to do so, and the peacekeepers encircled and blocked the car.

The Association of Free Press and another six media unions released a common statement, in which they blamed the peacekeepers and their actions. They described them as a breach ofhuman rights and freedoms, citing the Constitution of Moldova; Article 25 says that the searches and detentions are only allowed in certain cases foreseen by the law.

Journalist associations demanded that the Moldovan government investigate the incident and release its results for wide audience.
