Head of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia Konstantin Kosachev does not exclude the possibility of the release of four Ukrainian fishermen detained by Russia’s FSB in Azov Sea on February 15, as RT reported.
“If and when these fishermen agree on the fact that they violated the Russian legislation, God willing, that we release them and they leave for their hometown. Until it will not take place, we will stay in the state of the debate. This debate will be judicial from our side and political form the side of Ukraine,” Kosachev noted.
Commenting on the call of the Chargé d'affaires of Russia to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, the Russian lawmaker noted that the Ukrainian side attaches political meaning to the detention of the fishermen. According to him, Russia ties the incident with the fact of poaching, which was confirmed by detainees.
On February 15, Russia's FSB detained the vessel, saying that the crew performed illegal fishing activity. Later, Russian law enforcers interrogated the sailors who admitted illegal fishing. They were arrested for 10 days.
