As additional Russian troops are transferred, the number of Russian military forces near Ukraine's borders will increase to 110,000 soldiers. Interfax-Ukraine reported citing the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran at a meeting of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defense.
"The gathered data allow us to recognize the ongoing preparation for the approach to the Ukrainian borders of additional units from mainland Russia. The total number of Russian troops concentrated along the Ukrainian borders in this direction with an additional contingent will reach 56 battalions of tactical groups with 110,000 soldiers," Taran said.
The Minister of Defense stated that Russia increases its attack capabilities on the European continent. Taran also drew attention to the need to consider political and related security developments in Belarus. According to him, it can also potentially lead to a Russian permanent military presence in this country.
As it was reported earlier, on April 13, the commander of the U.S. European Command, Air Force General Tod Walters said that NATO is capable of repelling Russia in case of aggression against Ukraine.
On the same day, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the Russian Federation to immediately stop the buildup of troops on the border with Ukraine and in the occupied territories.
