Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the FBI have already initiated their investigation into this accident.
“This is a much bigger story than one single agency. This is a huge cyber espionage campaign targeting the U.S. government and its interests,” reads the message.
The Russian side, in turn, has already described the allegations as another unfounded attempt to discredit Russia.
It is reported that the hackers were able to broke into the networks after stealing hacking tools from FireEye, a tech company whose customers include governments (federal, state, and local) and top global corporations.
As we reported earlier, back in November, U.S. tech giant Microsoft witnessed efforts by Russian and North Korean hacking groups to target pharmaceutical companies and coronavirus vaccine researchers.
"The targets include leading pharmaceutical companies and vaccine researchers in Canada, France, India, South Korea, and the United States," the statement said.
