Russian Foreign Ministry accused the US Congress in the preparation of the economic blockade of the country. In particular, it was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, speaking at the State Duma of the Russian Federation, RIA Novosti reports.
"Our detractors in Congress are struggling to crush any positive signs in relationships between Russia and the US. In January this year they introduced a bill to codify the sanctions imposed by Obama's orders so that Trump could not cancel them at his will. Furthermore, it is proposed to extend and tighten the restriction, in fact, to organize something like an economic blockade of Russia", he said.
Ryabkov did not rule out that the relevant bill may be passed by the US Congress, but so far he is in the relevant committees.
"The US Congress can adopt such law. Taking into account the dominant anti-Russian sentiment on Capitol Hill, US lawmakers are apparently able to overcome a presidential veto", he said.
Ryabkov said that the ministry "does not dramatize the situation," but "all the signals coming out of Washington are being analyzed carefully."
