Jeppe Kofod, Danish Foreign Minister summoned the Russian ambassador for a meeting, as Russian military aircraft entered the Danish air space without proper authorization; the incident took place on August 28. Danish Foreign Ministry's press office reported that on September 2.
"I take the unacceptable violation of the Danish airspace by Russia seriously. It is absolutely crucial that everyone, including Russia, adhere to the basic rules of the game and international principles. This message was directed towards the Russian ambassador today", Kofod said.
The official reiterated that Denmark made it quite clear to the Russian side that nothing like this incident could happen again.
Earlier, NATO member countries claimed that U.S. bomber aircraft B-52 was intercepted by Russian fighter jet Su-27. The incident occurred in the international air space over the Baltic Sea, as B-52 was approaching Danish airspace in the vicinity of Bornholm island. The Russian aircraft followed the American one, breaching the air space of the NATO member country.
The Russian side, however, stated that the U.S. bomber was approaching the Russian border.
