Russian Embassy in Damascus

Russia’s embassy in the Syrian capital went under mortar fire. Mariya Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, said this on Thursday as quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Zakharova, the anti-government militants were behind the attack. The mine exploded near the entrance to the consulate department, dealing the minor damage. No one was hurt in the accident.

‘Another attack on the Russian diplomatic mission is unacceptable and must be decisively condemned,’ Zakharova said.

That’s the second attack on Russian embassy in two days; the militants fired two mines, none of which exploded.

Earlier today, both Syrian and Russian governments announced an end to all military actions across the country; the ceasefire is expected to take effect on December 30. The opposing sides agreed to stop all kinds of military actions, including air strikes.
