The Russian Embassy in Washington denies the involvement of Russian citizens in the storming of the US Capitol on January 6. The Embassy published the respective comment on its Facebook page in connection with information that appeared in the American media that one of those detained during the mass protests on January 6 needed a "Russian translator".
"The Russian Embassy in the United States is closely monitoring the situation in connection with the state of affairs in the capital district. We have sent a request to the State Department for the presence of Russians among the detained or injured. So far, no such facts have been identified," the statement says.
At the same time, the Russian diplomatic mission was assured of its readiness to provide compatriots with consular and legal assistance if the need arises.
As is known, on January 6, supporters of Donald Trump broke into the US Capitol building and ravaged it. The police detained several dozen protesters.
