A Russian diplomat broke the law during a nighttime incident, which occurred in Kyiv on Sunday.
The man driving a car with license plates of Russian diplomatic corps was detained near Bortnychi village, Kyiv region. According to patrol police officers, the driver was clearly drunk; he refused to undergo alcohol test or to show his driver’s license on demand. He locked himself inside the car, calling his colleague on the phone.
Yaroslav Trakalo, the spokesman of the National Police, added that the detained diplomat appeared to be Ruslan Tribunskiy, the Russian consul who also serves with the Border Guard Service of Russian FSB (federal security service, - 112 International). According to the Ukrainian official, Tribunskiy showed his diplomatic ID, confirming her works for the Russian consulate.
‘Since this man enjoys diplomatic immunity, police inspectors had no right to seize either his car or his driver’s license. Thus, the police only reported on this incident and sent the report to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry; the authority, in turn, will notify the Russian side of the incident, too,’ Trakalo said.
