On Tuesday, June 27, Lefortovo district court of Moscow will consider the prosecution’s petition to extend the detention period for Ukrainian Roman Sushchenko. Mark Feygin, his lawyer posted that on Facebook on Monday.

Sushchenko, the reporter working for Kyiv-based Ukrinform news agency was detained in Moscow in September 2016, when he came there with a working visit. The prosecutors accused him of espionage: Russia’s FSB said Sushchenko allegedly worked for Ukraine’s military reconnaissance, which the Ukrainian side denies.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry condemns Russia’s actions, treating Sushchenko one of the Kremlin’s many political prisoners of Ukrainian origin.
