A Russian citizen suspected of spying for the Russian Federation was detained in Germany. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Germany.

According to the investigation, the suspect Ilnur N. worked as a research assistant in one of the German universities at the scientific and technical department.

"From October 2020 to June 2021, the man met at least three times with a Russian intelligence officer. According to German law enforcement officers, at least twice during these meetings, he provided information from the university, receiving cash in exchange," the statement said.

The law enforcement officers conducted searches at home and at the place of work of the detainee.

About two weeks ago in Polish Warsaw, a man was detained on suspicion of espionage in favor of the special services of the Russian Federation. According to the prosecution, he was engaged in Russian propaganda not only in Poland, but also in the EU.

It was also reported that in Denmark a 36-year-old Russian was sentenced to three years in prison for espionage for the Russian Federation.
