Russia voices conditions on which it is to stay in Council of Europe

According to the Kremlin, the main problem is the discrimination of the Council members

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov claimed that Russia was ready to continue working in the Council of Europe only in case the organization eliminates the discrimination of the member countries. He claimed this to reporters on September 21, TASS reported. 

‘Regarding the Council of Europe, Russia wants to be part of the Council of Europe it used to participate at. I speak of the Council of Europe, the Charter of which says that every country has equal rights in all its structures,’ he claimed.

‘None of the members of the Council of Europe can be discriminated. We are ready to work in the Council of Europe like this. The rest depends on the members of the Council of Europe,’ Lavrov stressed.  

Earlier, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko claimed that Russia seriously considers the exit from the European Council.
