Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that there are forces in Belarus that seek to implement the "Ukrainian scenario" for resolving the political situation. He stated this during a speech at the Territory of Meanings All-Russian educational forum in Solnechnogorsk, Moscow Region, TASS reports.
“The situation in Belarus is normalizing, and after the outbreak of violence in the first days after the elections, the protests are peaceful. This, however, is not profitable to those who seek to implement the Ukrainian scenario in the republic,” Lavrov said.
He noted that the coordinating council of the Belarusian opposition, which Western countries are trying to present as a legitimate partner of the government in negotiations includes many people known for their negative attitude towards the development of the Union State of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
Lavrov drew attention to the political program of president-wanna-be Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, which quickly disappeared from her website. According to Lavrov, the program included proposals for Belarus to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), and the Union State, as well as ideas on the country's accession not only to the European Union but also to NATO.
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Russia will accept any decision of Minsk regarding dialogue with the Belarusian people. In his opinion, the dialogue on a constitutional reform proposed by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko may be promising.
"But when the West says that only mediation with the participation of Western countries will be effective, of course, everyone remembers, this happened in Ukraine, where Western mediation turned into complete incapacity for our respective partners," Lavrov said.
Earlier it was reported that the Belarusian opposition announced its rejection of the forceful scenario of seizing power. It also became known that representatives of the opposition forces of Belarus declared their readiness for constructive cooperation with Russia and their unwillingness to spoil relations with this country.
